Cost and simplicity.
Offer a more cost-effective and streamlined alternative to conventional systems.

Together with Verhaert Masters in Innovation and Cegeka, Twintag was selected by OVAM and Fost Plus to pilot LitterBits, a Digital Deposit Return System against plastic litter in Belgium.

Flanders announced a deposit return system on plastic bottles and cans from 2025 and called for digital pilots to be tested by the end of 2023.
Within an extremely tight time frame, the pilot had to prove a digital approach in closed, semi-closed and open environments.

Offer a more cost-effective and streamlined alternative to conventional systems.
Work for every consumer, whatever their age or ability.
Protect personal data and prevent deposits from being claimed twice.
An anonymous reimbursement flow lets users scan the QR code at a collection point, then capture the data matrix code on each can or bottle. Depending on implementation, it has the potential for more than 50% cost savings compared to reverse vending machines.
The consumer pays a deposit on the beverage.
After use, they scan a blue bag at home or a blue litter bin on the go.
They scan the data matrix code on each bottle or can to receive the deposit.
Two proofs of concept in Belgium showed smooth and quick adoption by the target groups.
Proof of proximity in time and space plus unique packaging codes stop double scans.
Digital and hybrid systems proved accessible for all age and ability groups.
