In partnership with Katoen Natie's Consumer Goods and Industry (CGI) business unit, Twintag introduced an innovative solution to address challenges faced during pack line automation.
The customer
Katoen Natie is a global e-commerce logistics and engineering leader, operating in over 30 countries. Renowned for comprehensive services like logistics, storage, and transportation, they specialize in handling and storing goods, offering value-added services for diverse industries.
Within Katoen Natie, the Consumer Goods & Industry unit specializes in flexible, high-quality services for the B2C market. A center of excellence in DIY, home & kitchenware, automotive, apparel, aftermarket, and pet care, their international team ensures agile, resilient supply chain operations for global businesses in various domains.
Challenges
Katoen Natie was looking into a parcel packing layout for its client that would automate parcel packing while providing pack lists and content sheets, originally considered as physical documents. The traditional approach of dropping pack lists into dynamically filled boxes was deemed impractical. Manual printing and insertion were undesirable. Digital delivery to end-customers via email proved unfeasible for wholesale clients with different ordering and receiving individuals.
Seeking an efficient and sustainable solution for the client, Katoen Natie’s engineering team suggested exploring Twintag’s labelling approach. It promised to eliminate paper waste, avoid manual printing, and provide digital access to order information.

A holder label (2D data matrix) is placed on the box for internal warehouse operations, facilitating tasks like packing contents inside.
This label is seamlessly associated with a specific order in Katoen Natie’s Warehouse Management System (WMS).
Each box, securely packed and sealed, has a twintag with a packlist (or content sheet) along with the shipping address printed and applied at the end.

Digital packlist and shipping label combined
In a single, durable label on the box, Twintag addressed defined challenges by eliminating excess paper and manual printing. Utilizing a ‘robot arm' for automated tagging on each parcel, the solution provides a clean and state-of-the-art appearance. Digital labels, securely affixed to the box until the parcel’s final destination, allow recipients to effortlessly access and manage pack lists and content sheets using smartphones, tablets, or PCs.
