Re-sound added QR codes to their acoustic sound panels, giving customers instant access to material details, recycling info, easy returns, and direct brand engagement, while also serving as a marketing tool.

Re-sound is a Belgian manufacturing company that creates sustainable, high-performance acoustic solutions by transforming recycled materials (primarily, textiles and cardboard) into modular sound-absorbing panels. With a commitment to circular production, the company ensures that all raw materials are reused or recyclable, reducing environmental impact while enhancing indoor acoustics. 

Challenges

Re-sound set out to enable full traceability of their sound panels by making each layer—core, inner, and outer—digitally identifiable and registered. They aimed to give customers easy access to maintenance information while also gaining insights into product use and engagement. The goal was to simplify recycling, returns, and replacements, making their circular model effortless for everyone involved.

Simple, yet powerful solution

On-product information center

A QR code on each part of the sound panel acts as both a data hub and a marketing tool. It gives customers instant access to the product’s Digital Product Passport—details on materials, environmental impact, and sustainability. By scanning the packaging tag, customers can register the product to activate an extended warranty. 

Once installed, each panel can be scanned for maintenance info, service requests, or repairs, with all data logged in the Product Passport. If a panel needs replacing, scanning the tag initiates a return process. A manual assessment is then carried out based on the panel’s maintenance history to determine its return value. Re-sound reclaims, cleans, and reuses the components. The tag also provides access to certificates like fire resistance, sound absorption, and LCA, while a digital assistant helps users quickly find relevant information.

How to get started

Each part of the sound panel is tagged with a unique Twintag code in a sticker/hot patch form.

The components and the Digital Product Passport are digitally linked via the QR code.

Re-sound’s production partner in another facility assembles the components into modules and consolidates their individual Digital Product Passports into a single unified passport. When an order is placed, the modules and mounting materials are bundled into a set and assigned to the specific customer.
